I cannot believe there are no comments! The idea of rip stops and sail material comes to mind after checking out the trip’s blog posts and something that might be utilitarian. But that might look a little lower end than necessary. I don’t think leather is the way to go (at least for the bag itself) so what does that leave? Waxed Canvas? Maybe some combination waxed canvas outer/ripstop inner for a little more water resistance? Obviously I would recommend dimensions suited to a carry-on. Leather strapping- Horween Shell Cordovan against a waxed canvas in a charcoal grey outer- now we’re talking! Inner ripstop of bright color (so you can find your valuables). All military zippers (but carbon fiber so as not to set off metal detectors in airports) w/small (carbon fiber?) carabiners on every end for extra hooks (keys/mug/sport bottle/other bags/etc.) Just some brainstorm for you Mr. Alan. Best Wishes!

The perfect bag should have a lockable main compartment, ie: two zippers that meet with eye holes to put a small lock through. Also a weather-proof clear plastic window for name and number or business card. Be nice to have zippered pockets at either end on the inside of the bag for small stuff. How about a section between main and bottom compartments that could be unzipped and expand.
Love that someone cares enough to build the perfect bag…
    Good Luck!!! Can’t wait…

No. A little abrupt, but … no. I have spent years looking for the perfect carry-on bag, and this is not anywhere near. My requirements include:

    1. Absolute minimum weight with strength and security. ABS/polycarbonate is the closest. Under 5 pounds preferable. I want the weight taken up by contents.
    2. Maximum volume of internal space while exterior conforms to carry-on dimensions on the most stringent European airlines. This means corners with minimum radius while retaining strength so they will not crack.
    3. A selection of iInternal organizing dividers or bags that take up the minimul space.
    4. Wheeled. Two is enough. Conventional locations but inset as much as possible to conform to carry-on limits.
    5. Two 4-number TSA combination locks built in.
    6. Distinctive exterior colors that make it easy to find if one has to put it in the hold, but sedate. That means not plaid, not psychedelic, not bright. Safety is an issue in some places. It is also not leather or fabric. A textured or patterned exterior in a dark magenta or brown could be good.
    7. Metal loops on exterior to connect shoulder or backpack straps or to some furniture for security.
    8. I know I have more requirements. Just can’t think of them at this time.

If nobody builds my bag, I may have to find a Chinese manufacturer and start my own line.

Besides this bag, I carry a shoulder pack but have, yet, to find the ideal one. I have even more stringent requirements for that, but I may get a local seamstress to sew me my perfect sling bag. Current closest one is the Case Logic large E-Sling.
